Cruisin' the Castro Tours
Celebrates the filming of "MILK"

What an "exciting” time for the Castro community!  The upcoming movie "MILK", (due to be released as a major motion picture in November 2008) produced by Gus Van Sant started rolling in late January.  The neighborhood was transformed back to the 1970's with original storefronts, including the repainting of Castro Theatre's red sign, groovy clothes and classic cars!

Actor Sean Penn is heating up the streets by portraying Harvey's incredible personal and political journey re-creating the story of California's first openly gay government elected official, which changed the tides of the Gay Rights movement forever.

"This movie has been a truly amazing experience for everyone!" said, Kathy Amendola, Owner, Cruisin' the Castro Tours.  "Not only is it fun to see how Castro Street looked in the 70's, but mostly in the education it’s providing about the history of the LGBT "culture".   Harvey Milk's presence in the Castro brought this culture to a home as well as, gave it pride, strong leadership and a loud & legal voice for the very first time.  It was very different then.”

“Do you realize that homosexuality has only been "legal" since 1973?” asks Amendola. “It is however still a reason to terminate employment shockingly in this day and age in 33 United States and in 45 states, termination is legal for transgenders.  The reason why our jobs are protected in the state of California is all because of Supervisor Milk's "Discrimination Law" that was passed by Mayor then, George Moscone whom signed it in lavender ink."
