Golden Gate Men's Chorus (GGMC)
The GGMC is a select group of men representing the ethnic and social diversity of San Francisco, who share a common appreciation of choral music. The GGMC presents spring, summer, and winter programs annually, in addition to guest and community benefit performances throughout the year.
Aside from their three concert series each year, the GGMC also performs at special events and venues throughout the year. Counterpoint, a small ensemble of the Golden Gate Men's Chorus, performs with the Chorus, and, separately at public and private events.
Counterpoint specializes in a capella repertoire from Renaissance to contemporary new music. With voice parts ranging from countertenor to bass, Counterpoint is rapidly gaining a reputation throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for its artistry, its varied repertoire, and its engaging performances.
For over 25 years, GGMC has been entertaining San Francisco and drawing strength from our City’s diversity. Though the Golden Gate Men's Chorus has its roots in the gay community, its membership is not limited to gay men, from their 20's to their 70's.
By definition, GGMC is a men's vocal group. They make every effort to include women's participation: in the past year, paid consultants such as house managers, vocal coaches, and concert producers have been women. Women have been volunteers for the group and are encouraged to seek election to the Board.
GGMC needs volunteers for all aspects of our busy production schedule. Volunteers can assist the Board in concert planning and production, CD distribution, bookkeeping and finances, and fundraising. Volunteer ushers and house staff are always needed at our concerts, and a few volunteers are needed to help with choral retreats--especially if you can cook!
GGMC kicks off their Holiday Concerts on December 9th at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and they repeat the performance on the 11th, 16th and 18th. ggmc.org
