National Help Center
Become a volunteer and help others in crisis
The GLBT National Help Center provides vital peer-support, community connections, and resource information to GLBT people, and those questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity. They provide services via our toll-free hotlines and also via email. They are the only national organization of its type and scope in the United States providing this critically needed service regardless of age or geographic location.
The people who turn to them for help are often severely isolated, closeted and despairing, with literally no one to talk to. Many live in rural and conservative parts of the country and have never felt safe enough to speak to anyone about their sexuality.
People call the peer-counseling program using two national toll-free phone lines, which operate six days per week. The first is the GLBT National Hotline (1-888-843-4564), which is staffed entirely by trained volunteers providing peer counseling to thousands of people each year. They help people struggling with coming out issues, isolation, relationship concerns, HIV/AIDS anxiety and more.
Their second national toll-free line, the GLBT National Youth Talkline (1-800-246-PRIDE), helps callers aged 25 and younger. Volunteers provide peer-counseling focusing on coming out concerns, family issues, school problems, safer-sex information, dating and much more.
The Help Center has an ongoing need for compassionate volunteers who can help speak with our callers. A two-month training program is provided, and a new training cycle will be starting soon.
As a non-profit organization, The Help Center survives due to the support of our community. To help support their work, please visit the online or by calling their administrative offices at 415-355-0003. GLBTNationalHelpCenter.org
