RAISE IT!
Opportunities to volunteer or give over the holidays
By Janine Shiota

I love the holidays. Recently I worked food prep at Glide Memorial with some friends and family on the night before Thanksgiving and it really gives a great appreciation of how many people they feed and what a production the holidays are for them.  Stuffing and hams for 5000?  Toy sorting for 2000 kids?  Won’t you lend a hand? Under One Roof (UnderOneRoof.org) opened a special holiday store combined with a community-centered events center, called “A Home for the Holidays.”  They have turned 2278 Market Street into a lushly decorated Victorian holiday set where guests can shop for ornaments, decorations and gifts, decorate the community tree of remembrance with a note card in memory of a loved one. Got shopping to do or want to be a volunteer and help staff the store? Email: owen@underoneroof.org Call: 415-503-2300 x 305 underoneroof.org

Healing Waters, a San Francisco-based nonprofit takes people challenged by HIV/AIDS through wilderness adventures. Their fall gala at Mighty featured KRON4’s Jan Wahl and comedienne Margo Gomez. Also on hand were OUT Spoken’s Donna Sachet, Cassandra Cass, Armistead Maupin, Harry Denton and Assemblyman Mark Leno.  A special award went to recognize the incredible contributions of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. This month Fresh at Ruby Skye is donating to The Mint Project. The Old Mint at 5th and Market is being preserved in its 1874 glory. It will become a museum focused on the history and diversity of San Francisco and it’s going to be green and sustainable. The endeavor needs money and they only have a year to raise it. Won’t your donate generously? Email: info@sfhistory.com Call: (415) 775-1111 themintproject.com
