Macy’s Passport 25 to Surpass $25 Million
With Help from Designers, Sponsors and Hollywood’s A-List
2007 marks the silver milestone of Macy's Passport, commemorating an iconic quarter-century of unparalleled dedication to our HIV/AIDS community. Since the onset of the AIDS pandemic in the early 1980's, Macy's Passport, one of the best-loved fashion theatre events in America, has raised awareness and, with proceeds from this year, $25 million toward saving lives.
It was in 1987, when Hollywood legend and AIDS activist Dame Elizabeth Taylor made her debut appearance at Macy's Passport, elevating the show to a new level. One year later, Macy's, turned Passport into a benefit for six Bay Area AIDS agencies.
Soon after, Hollywood embraced the event, and over the years, the celebrities who've graced the stage reads like Hollywood’s A-list: Sharon Stone, Annette Bening, Tyra Banks, Macy Gray, Cindy Crawford, Tina Turner, Will Smith, Jennifer Lopez, and Mary J. Blige to name a few.
Stone, a yearly celebrity auctioneer, uses her sex appeal to auction everything from cars to trips to the Bahamas. "I just love doing it," Stone tells USA Today. Before she begins, she mediates "to be small enough and humble enough that I remember why I'm there. And to be big enough that I can play catch with that many people."
Auctioning that trip to the Bahamas last year, she tells the crowd, "If you can't get (sex) with this trip, you're too old and should stay home and watch The Golden Girls." Stone doesn’t mind spicing things up “people know if I have fun, they'll have fun."
Hon. James C. Hormel and Timothy C. Wu are 2007’s Silver Celebration Honorary Chairs. Striding down Passport’s infamous 120-ft runway are collections by Calvin Klein, Via Spiga, and Marc Ecko. Gala Evening is Thursday, September 20, 2007 at the Herbst & Festival Pavilions. A Cirque du Soleil performance kicks off the cocktail & hors d’oeuvres reception at 6:00pm.
