Lucy Lawless
Lawless is Flawless
By Tim Gaskin
Lucy Lawless to sing at REAF Benefit Help Is On the Way XIII on Sunday, AUGUST 5, 2007, 7:30pm at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre.
Lawless is best known for her television work as the ass-kicking babe Xena, a fighting royal. Set during the twilight of ancient Greek Gods, week-after-week it was a battle of monotheism versus pantheism for souls. And even though the hit series ended in 2001 after six years Lawless is still asked about here combat days. In a recent interview with OUT Spoken she cajoled. "Xena and Gabrielle were two fierce gals who busted asses across the ancient world and met a lot Gods." I think she is talking about men!
About the LGBT community, the mother of three says, "I feel like I'm in the gay world, most of my friends here in L.A. are gay. I am very comfortable in the whole community and arena." She stops and then makes the point even more personal, "I love them. I love everything about my friends!"
The Richmond/Ermet AIDS Foundation (REAF) is non-profit established to raise funds for AIDS service provider agencies through annual events like Help is on the Way.
It is because her fans are so generous that she is careful to align herself with honorable organizations that have a track record like REAF. "I feel humbled and a little afraid." Says Lawless. "Its amazing that this keeps going. The show engendered so much good will. These people give because they love that show so much." She continued.
Celebrities like Lawless stand-up and perform at these events for the fun of it. Lawless says, "They are a complete joy. There's so such a good vibe going around that it is just like wearing sweet gems on my ears."
